Abuse Highlights Dangers to Elderly

Elderly adults are at higher risk for abuse or neglect in nursing care facilities due to age and limited mental functioning capacity. Nursing home staff often takes advantage of the elderly placed in their care.

Although nursing homes are supposed to care for their residents, some nursing homes are not safe and lead to serious health issues or even death for some residents. With some abuse and neglect violations, legal action can be taken which results in fines and criminal charges.

Investigations usually reveal detailed accounts of abuse and neglect of residents with the incidents witnessed by other staff members who feel compelled to report the abuse. Concealment of mistreatment of the elderly occurs frequently within nursing home facilities but thanks to witnesses and the use of cameras, more abuse cases are discovered and often prosecuted.
