Bed Sores Affect Not Only Physical Health, but Mental Health as Well

Bed sores (also known as pressure ulcers, pressure sores and decubitus ulcers) cause sever physical pain but according health care professionals they can cause mental breakdowns as well.

Depression is a commonly observed effect from bed sores. To need help caring for yourself can be depressing by itself. Adding painful bed sores can cause additional depression.

Some patients try to deal with the physical and mental pain of having bedsores by limiting their social interaction. This results in social withdrawal. This withdrawal may even involve refusing visits from family members and friends and is not healthy for the patient.

Delirium or incoherent behavior can also develop in patients who have bed sores. Delirium often strikes if there are strong medications being used to treat the sore.

If the patient's bed sores are severe, extremely painful or disfiguring, the patient can have a serious decline in psychological health. Such patients can even be considered suicide risks.  For more, read the story.

Because bedsores can cause severe physical and mental pain we do all we can at the Robert W. Carter law office to bring restitution to patients and their loved ones who have suffered from severe bedsores.
