Caregiver Arrested After Police Found Injured Elderly Man in Unsanitary Conditions

Police have charged a man hired as a personal caregiver for an elderly, disabled man with felony abuse charges. According to police, the elderly patient was found in unclean conditions and suffering from multiple suspicious injuries.

The caregiver called for emergency assistance last week telling the operator that the man had fallen out of bed and he could not lift him. When police arrived, they found the man in soiled garments and bedsheets saturated with human waste. Investigators believe the condition had been that way for at least 24 hours. The elderly man also had what police are calling suspicious fractures and bruises.

The 35-year-old caregiver was held overnight in jail before being released on bail. The victim, a 76-year-old man, has been hospitalized. For more, read the story.
