Caretaker Arrested After Leaving 101-year-old Man Alone in Hot Car

A woman was arrested this weekend on suspicion of elder abuse after leaving a 101-year-old man in a hot car in front of a business, police said. Police were called just after 3 p.m. from someone concerned about the elderly man sitting in a vehicle in front of Walmart.

Officers arrived at the car to find the 101-year-old man who appeared to be in distress from the heat. Police have identified the 46-year-old woman, whom the man called his "granddaughter," to be a caretaker who is not related to the man.

Store staff tried to page the woman, but she did not respond. The man was taken to the hospital, where he is in stable condition. Officers later found the woman inside the store's McDonald's. She was arrested and booked into jail. For more, read the story
