Elderly Man Found Dead Outside Assisted Living Facility After Wandering Out Into the Cold

The body of a missing elderly man with dementia was found in the woods after he wandered away from an assisted living facility this week. Staff at the facility noticed that the man was missing on Monday night. A police search was performed until 5:00 a.m. and resumed again at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

Unfortunately, the man's body was found at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday in a wooded area 150 feet south of the assisted living facility. The facility was assisted living which meant residents are able to leave the facility more freely than in a nursing home. Alzheimer's advocates say often loved ones choose assisted living to help their loved ones maintain some freedom when it may not be the best option. For more, read the story.
