Elderly Woman Recovering After Spending Over 24-Hours Trapped in Nursing Home Elevator

A nursing home is being investigated after an elderly woman was trapped in an elevator at the facility for over 24 hours. According to officials, the elderly patient was trapped in the facility's elevator from the evening of December 23 until early Christmas morning.

The woman had been out with her family on December 23 and was dropped off at the front door that evening. When she did not return to her room, staff thought she was staying with her family. Unfortunately, the woman became trapped in the elevator on her way to her room and no one realized that she was missing until 24 hours later.

A search was initiated and the elderly woman was finally found in the malfunctioning elevator. The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. She returned to the facility on Christmas evening. Since the incident, the facility has begun requiring family members to sign residents in and out of the facility to ensure they are accounted for.
