Elementary School Students Make Valentine Cards For Elderly Nursing Home Residents

A group of elementary school students spent time this February making valentine cards for elderly nursing home patients. Representatives from a hospice group then delivered the cards to residents at two nursing homes on Valentine's day.  The Valentines were made by second and fourth graders involved in community groups such as the National Elementary Honor Society.

The activity was aimed at teaching the children the importance of community service and a desire to brighten Valentine's Day for nursing home residents. What many take for granted as a day of love and happiness can often be a very lonely day for elderly nursing home residents. The students who participated in creating the Valentines hope they can bring back the positive feelings of the special day. For more, read the story.
