Family Awarded $13.2 Millon By Jury For Nursing Home Death

The family of a deceased nursing home patient has been awarded $13.2 million dollars by a jury. The patient was sent to the nursing home for rehabilitation after falling at home and suffering a dislocated shoulder. Upon spending time at the nursing home, the injuries became far worse, with pressure ulcers leading to the loss of 20 pounds, multiple wound debridements, bone shaving and a colostomy.

An attorney presented that the deterioration that to place in the nursing home led to her death. “With adequate staffing and a properly run facility she would have completed her rehab and gone back home,” reads a statement from the family’s attorney. “Instead, she died an undignified death in pain.” For more, read the story
