Family Settles Case of Elderly Nursing Home Woman Raped by Another Resident

The family of an elderly female nursing home resident sexually assaulted by another resident  have settled their wrongful death claim against the facility. Lawyers for both sides announced last week before the second week of trial was to begin that the case had been settled.

The 90-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by a fellow resident at the home in January 2009. She died just 18 days after the incident.  According to court documents, the nurse in charge on the day of the attack left the male resident, who was acutely sexually aggressive, unattended after he had already been stopped from assaulting a different female resident. The resident then assaulted the victim until a visitor at the facility broke up the incident. For more, read the story
