Family Sues Nursing Home After Neglect Related Death

The estate of a former nursing home resident has filed suit against the facility, claiming the negligence of an employee resulted in the woman's death. The woman's family has sued the nursing home, a doctor, and a nurse practitioner with the facility.

The resident was admitted to the nursing home following a surgery in 2011. While at the facility,  lab results were faxed to the facility, but the facility did not record the results. When the resident experienced shortness of breath and swelling in both arms, legs, feet and face, she was transferred the hospital.

She returned to the facility within days, however she had to be transferred back to the hospital. At the hospital, she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. She died days later at the hospital. The family claims that the facility neglected to diagnose and treat the swelling when the patient first began experiencing symptoms. For more, read the story.
