Flooded Nursing Home Under Investigation

According to state officials, an assisted care center is under state investigation due to ongoing problems with flooding. Several years ago, the nursing home was flooded and residents were evacuated to safety.

The waist-deep flood waters entered the facility through the garage and windows so quickly that some people had to stand on top of chairs to stay out of the water. The waters receded by day break. The residents were removed from the nursing home while still in pajamas without taking their belongings with them.

The Department of Human Services office was notified on the day of the flood that all of the residents were safely transported by fire and rescue crews to a neighboring facility for continued care. None of residents were reported having injuries while being evacuated. For more, read the story.
