New Nursing Home Rating System Does Not Guarantee Better Care

In a recent response to the rating system that leaves nursing homes playing the system, an article noted the importance of looking for more than simple solutions to a larger, systemic issue. The fact that nursing homes are able to rank at 4- and 5-star levels is not the biggest issue. It is the fact that nursing homes are still not improving, rating or no rating.

This calls for another focus on nursing home care. Rather than ignoring it with the idea that one does not want to ever be in a nursing home, advocates of better long-term care must recognize the fact that 70% of people will stay in a long-term facility at some point. This calls for more than a rating system to improve nursing home care. For more, read the story.
