Nurse's Aide Arrested After Slapping Nursing Home Resident

A former nursing home Certified Nurse's Aide (CNA) was arrested Wednesday for alleged abuse of an elderly resident. The alleged incident happened on Aug. 21, according to an arrest affidavit. The report stated that the CNA had taken an 83-year-old woman into the shower room when two other CNA's said they heard the resident crying and telling the employee to “quit hitting her.”

The two witnesses said they heard the employee slap the victim five times, and when they went in to see what happened, the woman’s face was red and the CNA was pulling her hair and twisting her ear. According to the report, the CNA told the two co-workers, “the way you control this resident is to bend her thumb back to her wrist if she gets out of control.”

The administrator of the facility notified the police immediately following the alleged incident and also filed a report with the state agency that monitors nursing homes. The CNA was fired from the facility and is being held without bond at the Angelina County Jail. For more, read the story.
