Nurse's Aide Caught Stealing Pain Medication From Suffering Nursing Home Residents

A nurse's aide who worked with the elderly has been arrested by police following a two-month investigation into the theft of narcotic pain patches from cancer patients. Sheriff's detectives arrested 37-year-old nursing home employee earlier this month on charges of larceny, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and tampering with evidence.

Supervisors at the county run nursing home alerted noticed Fentanyl patches missing from several patients at the facility and notified police. Fentanyl is a powerful narcotic pain killer patch often prescribed to cancer patients. The aide, after being detained by police, attempted to swallow a piece of Fentanyl patch still in her possession. She later admitted to theft of over 25 pain patches in the past two years.
