Nurse's Aide Investigated After Hitting Nursing Home Resident With Bed Pan

A nurse's aide is currently being investigated for allegedly hitting a patient with a bed pan.Police took a report from a patient at a nursing home who indicated that a nurse's aide had thrown a plastic bed plan at him March 2. An Area Agency on Aging employee contacted police after receiving a complaint from the resident's daughter Monday.

The patient had a bruise on his stomach from the bed pan, according to the police report. The patient told police he had accidentally urinated in the bed twice and requested a bed pan to prevent further accidents. He said the aide got a bed pan from a bathroom and threw it at him.

According to police, another patient had been awakened that night to the aide yelling. He told police the aide told the other patient she "didn't have time for this all night" and threw the item from about five feet away. He said the aide then took the bed pan back and said, "No, you can just use your diaper all night."

According to the report, the nursing supervisor was informed of the allegations March 6. The report did not indicate whether the nursing home had taken action or not. Police said the case remains under investigation and charges had not been filed as of Friday. For more, read the story.
