Nursing Home Aide Sentenced to Prison For Physical Abuse of Elderly Resident

A former nursing home aide was sentenced to two years in prison last week after she was caught on video stuffing latex gloves into the mouth of a 96-year-old patient with dementia. The woman, 23, plead guilty to abusing the resident. As part of a plea deal, all but two years of a 7-year prison sentence were suspended.

The woman is a citizen of Nigeria and will be deported after she serves her prison sentence. A 28-year-old nursing home employee was also identified in connection with the abuse, however, she remains at large. The two nursing assistants were caught on camera abusing the resident last spring. The video shows the aides forcing rubber gloves into the resident's mouth and pushing on the resident's face and torso to force her to lie down. For more, read the story.
