Nursing Home Director Named in Two Wrongful Death Lawsuits

The former medical director of a nursing home at the center of the “Angel of Death” criminal probe has been added as a defendant to a lawsuit filed by the family of a woman whose death is under investigation.

The woman was among three bodies exhumed in 2007 as part of a criminal investigation that led to charges of neglect against the facility’s nurse and nursing supervisor.

The amended lawsuit filed Wednesday alleges, among other things, that the Director of the home improperly diagnosed the woman with a terminal illness, failed to determine whether she was in pain before authorizing morphine administration, and failed to ensure proper practices for handling and storing controlled substances at the facility.

The woman lived at the facility for about two months before her death on Sept. 10, 2006. The Director of the facility is named in another pending lawsuit involved a similar death of a resident. He has denied the allegations in both lawsuits against him. For more, read the story.
