Nursing Home Employee Beats Patient To Death, Medical Examiner Rules It Homicide

A nursing home patient has been beat to death by the very caregiver who should have been life-sustaining.  The patient suffered from dementia and vision problems.  He was beaten onto the floor and impaled with a table that was turned over. Police have charged the nursing home employee with homicide per the medical examiner’s report.

The nursing home is part of a chain of 88 facilities with a history of poor staffing. “When there’s not enough staff it puts enormous pressure on the staff that are there, and really a facility has the potential to become a hotbed of neglect, if not abuse,” said a representative of the Long Term Care Community. “We see serious problems that come down to the administration and the ownership, which is ultimately responsible for the safety of residents.
