Nursing Home Facing Bedbug Infestation

One nursing home facility is taking the proper steps to eliminate a bedbug problem, according to the health department. The facility immediately reported a bedbug infestation to the Health Department when it was discovered last week. However, since bedbugs do not carry disease like other bugs or parasites, it is not an issue that the health department must monitor.

The health commissioner has said that the bugs most likely were brought in on a visiting family member. He also said that the facility has been notifying family members of its residents individually as the patients are moved and their rooms are being treated. The health commissioner has also said said the health department has no current concern about the safety or well-being of residents in the facility, and he believes the problem is being dealt with in the most effective way possible.
