Nursing Home Focus Group Reveals Concerns Of Family And Residents Regarding Care From Home

A healthcare consultant company led a focus group study in a group of nursing homes to find that residents were not satisfied with their care. In the focus group, residents and their families reported that nursing home staff would not honor the wishes of residents when requests were made. This left families wanting and looking for more in the area of compassionate care.

On resident noted an incident when he did not feel honored in his choice, “They say to me that if I put you to bed to change you then you have to stay there. I am not getting you back up.” Those that participated in the focus group perceived that care workers who do not honor the residents’ wishes leave concern for more serious care issues.
