Nursing Home Found Negligent in Bed Sore Case

A civil jury has found a nursing home negligent in its care of former resident who developed severe, infected bedsores. The verdict came Wednesday after more than a day of deliberation.

The woman, who filed the suit on behalf of her father, who is no longer living, said she hopes the judgment sends nursing homes a message. At trial, the attorney for the man's family said the nursing home was intentionally understaffed in order to make more money, often leaving nurses with up to 60 residents to oversee at a time.

The man who has lived at the facility for about six years when he had to be hospitalized for two bedsores that went to the bone. The nursing home however, plans to appeal the verdict and claims that the man's terminal lung cancer caused the wounds not to heal, not poor care. For more, read the story.
