Nursing Home Investigated After Scabies Outbreak; One Woman's Rash Ignored For Month

One state has launched an investigation into a nursing home that may be infested with scabies. Since a television news report, several more victims have come forward.

One of the residents, 89, started complaining of an itchy rash a month ago and the nursing home didn't do anything about it until it spread. "If they would have taken my complaint seriously it may not have gotten to this point,” her niece said.

The nursing home has refused to comment but some employees have come forward claiming more than half of the staff and residents have contracted scabies.

“I should have been notified about this,” said the niece. She visited her aunt numerous times before being told about this contagious skin infection. "I've been to see her and we've all hugged all over her and kissed on her,” she said. “Now, I'm afraid because I've got a rash all over my back.” For more, read the story.
