Nursing Home Resident Found Dead 200 Meters From Facility

The daughter of a retired doctor found dead after going missing from a nursing home  says she is angry her father was allowed to walk out of the secured facility. Her father, 87, had severe dementia and diabetes which was controlled by regular medication.

The retired doctor's body was found at about 5pm Saturday in the backyard of an unoccupied property, just 200 meters from the nursing home where he had not been seen since Wednesday afternoon. A police search-and-rescue team found the body.  For three days the man had been without his medication and probably food. His family feared he was either gravely ill or unconscious.

The man's daughter said it is believed that the man slipped out of the secure facility behind an employee who was leaving the building. The nursing home declined to comment. For more, read the story.
