Nursing Home Residents Donate Nearly 3,500 Cans of Food to Charity

Residents of one nursing home know the secret to a blessed life is by helping others. For the past three years, residents and staff of the nursing home took on several projects to help charities. Recently they raised more than 3,400 canned goods in two weeks which went to three local charities.

"I did the best I could and I thank everybody for what they did," said one resident during the celebration party last Friday. "The Bible says blessed are the cheerful givers, and that's what we are. I couldn't do as much as I liked to, but I did what I could."

The canned food drive is held annually before Valentine's Day each year and the residents who collect the most cans are crowned "Mr. and Ms. Sweetheart."  For 2010, Mr. and Ms. Sweetheart together collected over 1,000 cans.

One resident thanked everyone involved because " they game me something to do," and said "when people reach out and help us help other people in the community, it's a reason to celebrate. This is love."  For more, read the story,500
