Nursing Home Under Investigation After Resident Dies Days After Being Beaten by Roommate

Investigations are under way at one nursing home after a resident's death.  The 91-year-old resident died on July 23 after he allegedly was severely beaten by his 88-year-old roommate. The resident passed away a few days after the assault.

The preliminary finding of the medical examiner's office was that "the death was due to natural causes and unrelated to any injury under investigation,” but the official cause of death has not yet been released. According to the residents daughter, he suffered from a number of illnesses, including an enlarged heart, kidney failure, dementia and pneumonia.

The assailant told employees that the victim was snoring too loud and he couldn't get to sleep. The State Health Department's long-term care division is reviewing the facility's policies and procedures in response to the incident. The family of the resident was unaware of any prior conflicts between the men who had been roommates for approximately a year. For more, read the story.
