Patience Wears Thin With State Investigations Of Nursing Home Care

A state health department is under fire for its slow response time to complaints regarding negligence and abuse in nursing home healthcare. Cases remain open for years before receiving a response or a ruling. Lawsuits are being filed and ruled in the plaintiff’s favor, while years later, the review is still underway by the health department.

This concern was raised by a woman whose mother died from a pressure ulcer that went untreated for so long, the wound revealed exposure to the bone. The daughter filed a lawsuit and an arbitrator ruled in her favor for more than a half million dollars. “The documentation presented in this case reflects a complete failure of the nursing staff to comply with their own guidelines,” he wrote. However, the daughter of the deceased woman has yet to hear of a completed investigation by the state health department.  For more, read the story. ____________________________________________________________________________
