Six Nursing Homes Fined in One State For Neglect Of Patients

Six different nursing homes in one state were fined thousands of dollars for neglect of their patients, injuries due to falls, and medication errors. The various incidents caused injuries, hospitalization and even death in some cases. The nursing homes were cited for each individual incident and fined accordingly.

In one incident a nurse gave 10 times the dosage of a medication ordered by a physician, leaving the patient with lowered blood pressure, slowed breathing, and a required transfer to the emergency room. Another incident involved a patient who slipped and fell while bathing. The resident had cuts and bruises and was taken to the hospital. In a long list of incidents, another patient was hospitalized and later died because the patient was not monitored for diabetes, hypertension, and dysphagia and vomiting. The daily flow sheets did not monitor the patient’s input and output. The reports documented a number of other patients who also experienced neglect. For more, read the story.
