State Department Of Health Resists Accountability For Nursing Home Complaint Response Time

A state auditor’s office has investigated the state health department for a backlog of nursing home complaints. The auditor’s stated that the reviews of the complaints are not being processed in a timely fashion for the level of care concerns that are noted in the complaints in nursing homes.

The state departments defended their timeline of response by stating that they are moving as quickly as possible. They are concerned about implementing timelines as the auditors suggested, saying the state department "disagrees with [the state auditor’s office] recommendations that it should establish time frames for completing investigations”. However, the state auditor’s office deems that, "As demand for such services increases, the quality of care provided at these facilities will continue to be an ongoing and growing concern."
