Volunteer Program Raises Nearly $100,000 to Assist the Elderly

One volunteer program accumulated $98,415 in contributions this holiday season. While those contributions were down from last year's nearly $102,000 in donations, the support of the community provided another "outstanding" year for the annual fund despite a difficult economy, said the publisher of the group in charge of "the Empty Stocking Fund."

The coordinator of the program, which is in it's 37th year, said this year's fund assisted about 1,200 nursing home patients and 500 families during the holidays. Donations provided basic necessities for families and individuals, and sometimes a small gift for the children. For more, read the story.
