Woman Sentenced to Six Years in Jail After Beating Elderly Man in her Care

A woman who fled to Kenya after she was accused of elder abuse pleaded guilty in a U.S. court this week. The woman received six years in jail after she pleaded guilty to three counts of abuse of a vulnerable adult.

The charges stem from an incident in 2007 when the woman brutally attacked a 90-year-old man in her care. The abuse was later discovered by the man's daughter who had captured the incident on a hidden camera. After the suspect was charged, she fled to Kenya until federal authorities had her extradited late last year.

The state attorney on the case commented that the extradition and sentence was intended to send a clear message about how seriously the state treats elder abuse cases. The woman had previously agreed to a plea deal with a lighter sentence in December, but she changed her mind at the last minute.
